Utopian United Kingdom

The countries of England, Scotland and Wales make up Great Britain and when Northern Ireland is added it becomes the United Kingdom.

All constituent countries are unique even though three of them share the same island whilst Northern Ireland shares a border with another sovereign state.

NI is home to the UK's largest lake, Lough Neath. You can also see one of the most amazing rock formations in the world on the North coast, the hexagonal blocks known as the Giant's Causeway. Belfast, the capital has suffered greatly due to the ongoing separatist movement but the murals tour, art depicting "The Troubles" is a fascinating insight into this largely sectarian conflict. Scotland is a land of highlands and lowlands.

From its huge, highly cultural main cities of Edinburgh and Glasgow to its bleak rugged islands of the Hebrides and Orkneys, the scenery is wild and exhilarating. It's a place of haggis, bagpipes, tartan, unfathomable accents and deep fried pizza.

Scotland is the most mountainous part of the UK. Wales too has its fair share of mountains but less rugged. Wales is full of castles set on stunning beautiful coastlines, national parkland and towns of unpronounceable place names. Make sure you set your camera on landscape to take a picture of the sign for llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch. No visit to the UK would be complete without a trip to London which is one of the most exciting places on Earth. Have a whirlwind tour of the main sights but make time to hire a car to get out into the beautiful shires, onto Dartmoor, into the Lake District or to whizz motorways between the cities of Birmingham, Manchester, Brighton and York.

The UK is full of historical sites and modern wonders; you just have to do some cherry picking and still leave plenty of luscious fruit on the tree for next time.
